The Flat Line Theory of Golf

"I go to the first tee scared to death every day.  The peaks do not seem to last as long as the valleys in this game"

J.C. Snead

I think that most that most golfers that one will talk with, will for the most part, agree that after learning the basics of striking the ball (no small feat in itself) that the mind then becomes the dominant factor in how well one plays or doesn't play the game of golf.  If you are like most amateur golfers you will not have the mental discipline that the majority of professional golfers have and you will be able to identify with the quote above more then ever.  I do not remember seeing to many good shots being made when a golfer's mind was in a valley.  Of course on the other hand we can expect at least one "devil's shot" per round.  You know the type perhaps it's a 30 foot putt on the 18th green to save par or maybe it's the 190 yard shot that stops 6 inches from the cup on the par 3.  The "devil's shot" will manifest itself in many ways and will take our minds to the mythical peaks of golf and ensure that we shall return and continue to flog away at the ball.
